Have you heard the voice of Antarctica?
When Antarctica calls, it needs our response.
In 2048, the Antarctic Treaty, which has protected the continent for decades, will be up for renewal. This book will help you to understand the stakes for humans and Antarctica. With a better awareness of the continent – its landscape, its history, and the things that live there -- you will be prepared to make decisions and take actions that will have a constructive impact for Earth.

Explore.
You will explore questions such as: Why do we need to care about Antarctica? How much effort has been spent exploring and protecting this Continent? What does Antarctica hold for our collective future?
Expedition.
With a focus on science, Antarctic expeditions tackle these questions. One featured trip is Admiral Richard E. Byrd's III expedition to Antarctica. This expedition is often left out of timelines and history books. Byrd was one of the most important figures of twentieth century exploration. The author's father, George W. Gibbs, Jr., participated as crew on one of the expedition ships, the USS Bear. He became the first person of his race to step on Antarctica. The expedition had 125 men and 80 dogs. Fifty-nine of the men wintered-over for about one year. The lessons and insights of these explorers have contributed to a global understanding of the Earth and space.
Humanity.
Climate is one of our planetary support systems that includes Earth’s atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere. What happens in the polar regions affects the entire planet. You will discover how Antarctica benefits humanity and how you can help protect one of the most vulnerable areas of the Earth. What’s next for Antarctica is up to us!

Connecting past, present, and future
Gibbs’ life is a model for equality and fun.
The Call of Antarctica is a story about George W. Gibbs, Jr’s adventures as the first person of African descent to set foot on Antarctica.
What happens Inside of us affects the whole planet
What happens tomorrow affects the entire human race. What happens on Antarctica is the result of our actions. We are all Antarctica.
Who makes a difference? —
We do.
Remember every day, we make the difference in our future.
